I dare you to not be moved…

I opened the newspaper this morning to a haunting image. I hesitate to post it because I don’t mean for this to be a discussion on the war in Iraq. No matter your view, that discussion would be one of Duality.

Rather, to me, this photo speaks of Unity emerging from Duality. It is a contemplation on the odd juxtaposition of life and death. We usually think of life and death being at opposite ends of a continuum — Duality. But we also speak of the Circle of Life — Unity. This photo makes me wonder where this man’s soul is now, and where his daughter’s was two weeks ago. Is the place one and the same? Can you even speak about Eternity in terms of where and when?

I feel both bottomless sorrow and sublime joy.

That’s what this photo evokes in me. How about you?

This soldier’s story can be found in the Rocky Mountain News.

I look at that photo, and I can’t help but get bothered by the war again, so I’ll just shut up.

Wow, moved in so many ways.SELFISHLY thankful that my sons ae older and not draftable. SORROWFUL for the loved ones of this young man that would rather be living to a possible 100 doing anything other than this. HOPEFUL that he flew to his heaven in his heart, PROUD that he measured up to his county’s demands even if he didn’t believe in the purpose at hand, GRATEFUL that he and so many others like him are protecting our nation’s way of thinking and cause.Thank you for posting and making us remember to think.

It IS hard to see such a situation from a viewpoint beyond the divisiveness. But I believe that to the extent we can see the wholeness — the Tao (the union of the yin and yang), we actually heal the rift between all the Us-es and Thems.
