Triad View: "Adoption is OK"

Here’s a current perspective. Deb Donatti is a(n adoptive) mom of three. She blogs about Open Adoption on Adoption.com.

Deb recently met a person who had been adopted and was in reunion with her birthparents. This woman also has a loving relationship with her parents. In fact, this woman considered herself happy and well adjusted. Deb was left with a feeling of hope that her children are likely to experience the same.

A wise man once told me that to be grown up is to accept the world the way it IS rather than the way it SHOULD be.

So part of my job as a parent is to help my children be OK with the the way things ARE, with the life they have, with the cards they are dealt, which includes their adoption stories (and everything else that comes along).

So it’s possible. Dare I say likely? To raise a son or daughter who can say — and truly mean — that adoption is no biggie?

Check back with me in 20 years. (But definitely not 10!)
